In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, children, parents and educators alike have had to adapt to the new norm of distance learning. One Florida-based woman has emerged as a trusted community leader in the education digital space.

“The new norm” is not so new to Belinda V. Givens, M.A, CCC-SLP. For the past 4 years, this award-winning Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) has created culturally relevant, and engaging digital solutions to facilitate remote learning and teletherapy with the goal of empowering fellow SLPs.

Givens, the founder of BVG SLP, has written and published 3 children’s books, created over 200 digital resources that are no prep, no print, and her resources are versatile enough to be utilized on Smartboards, computers and tablets, for individual or group instruction. She holds an endorsement in Reading and has a passion for language and literacy. Everything that she creates has a foundation in literacy with a focus on challenging students while still reinforcing important foundational skills. Her best-selling Sequencing and Story Retell Series addresses comprehension, sequencing, story retell, vocabulary, and includes original short stories in each unit.

At the dawn of the pandemic, her website saw exponential traffic with a global community relying upon her leadership, and original, affordable educational tools. Givens shared:

“I strongly believe learning should be fun, especially during these challenging times. It is important to uplift and motivate students by capitalizing on their strengths and making them feel supported. Differentiation is key to ensure that ALL students are being reached at their level and challenged to grow towards their full potentials. Regardless of whether you’re working remotely or face to face, building a solid rapport from the very beginning will help promote a strong foundation as you work together with your students to construct a masterpiece of knowledge.”

Licensed in FL, CA, WA, and OH and a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA), Belinda served on ASHA’s Telepractice Convention Committee for two consecutive years in 2018 and 2019.

In 2021, the Wall Street Journal reported that in the United States about 7 billion students receive specialized instruction and some form of related services each year, highlighting that children with disabilities face unique challenges.

Throughout her 13 years of experience, Belinda has practiced in various settings including Assisted Living Facilities, Skilled Nursing Facilities, the public school system and most recently via teletherapy serving school-aged students K-12.

She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology with a minor in Education from Florida State University and a Master’s of Art in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida.
